Vailen walked down the corridor with Raelyn. The vision was still fresh in his mind. He knew what he had to do, but he feared their link would be either weakened or broken once he sealed the chamber. The war wasn’t over, but they had been victorious for now. The sword would guide him and he might even survive it. He smiled and took her hand.
They reached the great hall and stood looking up at the vaulted red glowing ceiling. He turned to her and looked into her intense blue eyes. His heart ached when he was this close to her. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Smart, brave, strong, too good for him for sure. He took her in his arms and squeezed her tightly. Their lips met and her scent filled him.
Vailen left Raelyn in the great hall. His long determined strides brought him to his destination in only a few moments. He rested his palm on the cool surface of the chambers double doors and pushed them open. He hesitated for only a second and walked through the doorway. The walls held racks for weapons and Vailen had collected some of the best he could find and put them here. In the center of the room stood an armor rack and a large wooden table. He walked to the rack and removed his armor and placed it there. He placed the scroll on the table, and looked once more at the ring on his finger. The stone in his sword erupted with light filling the room with a red glow. He walked to the doorway and closed the two large doors. He placed his hand with the ring on the metal door plate.
He felt the rush of power flowing from the sword through the ring into the metal surface of the door. He dropped to his knees physically and mentally drained. The next Demon Warrior would have to finish it, if he could.
